In his role as a Leadership Coach with TNTP, Dave draws upon his twenty-eight years of experience teaching and leading in rural and urban schools, from North Carolina to New York City. His coaching is focused on leader development, equitable practices, high quality literacy instruction and managing complex change. His clients have included principals, district literacy directors, chief academic officers, and education philanthropy leaders.
He began his career as middle and high school language arts teacher and has served as a secondary assistant principal and a middle school principal. Prior to joining TNTP, he led the New York City training institute for Teach For America. Dave holds a coaching certification in evidence-based executive coaching through the International Coaching Federation (ICF).
He is based in Charlottesville, VA where he lives with his spouse, Erin (a K-12 district leader), their two children, Miles and Zoë and their dog, Moose. Dave enjoys running, flyfishing, UNC Chapel Hill sports, playing bass in his band, and being a soccer dad.
